WordMage Chronicles

The magic of irregular verbs

Your mentor was dragged into the Darkness. Every spell you know is an English verb: remember went and gone, and the fire flies.

Coming to Windows, Android and iPhone

Cast a spell here

In the game, every card in your hand carries a verb. Pick the past form, then the participle. Get both right and the spell hits at full power.

Both forms right: the pane of your lantern lights up. One right: half the light. These are the five words of the first place on your journey, the Flooded Reach.

How it plays

A meteor crashes into a crowd of slimes on a swamp path.

Words are the spells

Open your hand and choose a card: Meteor, Ice Storm, Light Beam and more. The card shows a verb; you pick its two other forms. A full answer casts at full strength, a half answer casts weaker, a miss lets the spell fizzle. Your staff keeps firing small sparks on its own, so the fight never stops while you think.

The Mute, a boss in a silver mask, raises a dome of silence around the mage.

Bosses that read your vocabulary

Each place ends behind a gate that opens only when you write the forms yourself. Behind it waits a boss with its own trick: Silt has to be lured onto rotten boards, the Mute silences your hand until you speak a word into its dome. They use only the words of their place, so a win means you know them.

The open spell book with fire, ice and light spells and the five-card hand.

A spell book that grows with you

Every word you learn earns knowledge crystals. Spend them on new spells: more than twenty across fire, ice and light, from a healing firefly to a dash of flame. Build a hand of five and change it before each journey.

The Word Knowledge book listing be, have, go, see and come with their forms and mastery gems.

Learning you can see

Each verb has four levels of knowledge. Right answers move it up; mistakes bring it back for practice, and nothing you have earned is taken away. Two hundred irregular verbs in five levels, from A1 to C1, or your own list of words.

Ten places to bring back to light

Gasnyk, a former student who went to the Tower for power and came back with the Darkness, took your mentor on the day of your initiation. He is breaking the ten seals of the Old Road with your mentor's light. Follow him seal by seal, learn the five words from each note your mentor leaves behind, and close every gate he opened.
